This week we are honoured and excited to be hearing voices from around the world tomorrow for our International Day.
This discussion comes at an important time when changes to our Government are bringing refreshed optimism for transformation of the UK whistleblowing framework. Renewed commitment to the Public Authority (Accountability) Bill and the forthcoming public consultation on Whistleblowing Legislation signal positive change.
Crime does not recognise international boundaries, and research and evidence tells us that whistleblowers are the single most effective antidote to disrupting and tackling international and serious organised crime. However, there remains a significant and in some cases potentially terminal risk to those who speak out to protect others.
Our panel will be discussing the improvements enacted by Gibraltar and other jurisdictions around the world and what the UK can learn from these journey’s and importantly how we can work together to create a global legally binding mechanism that empowers speaking up, providing protection against retaliation.
It’s not too late to be involved in this discussion, for information please email: secretary@wbuk.org
