WBUK Welcomes Marie Hemmingway to the Team

By 2 April 2026No Comments2 min read

Marie joins our team as a Non-Executive Adviser for Speak-Up Governance and Assurance.

“I support the work and aims of WhistleblowersUK because effective whistleblowing is fundamental to public trust, safety, and accountability – particularly in regulated and high-risk environments where suppressed concerns can lead to systemic failure. In my role as Non-Executive Adviser, I provide independent oversight and constructive challenge on the governance, design, and assurance of speak-up systems, helping ensure they operate as meaningful protections rather than symbolic policies.

Drawing on my experience leading Speak Out Revolution, I focus on whether disclosure frameworks are trusted, psychologically safe, and capable of surfacing risk early. I bring extensive experience of operating at arm’s length from executive teams, advising boards, regulators, and senior leaders on the governance implications of whistleblowing failures, cultural barriers to speaking up, and weaknesses in internal assurance. My work includes translating lived experience and system insight into clear, evidence-based challenge that strengthens organisational judgement and accountability.

As a result of my work I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with and support WhistleblowersUK. I believe in its mission to improve whistleblower protections and organisational practice, contributing to safer systems, stronger governance, and normalising speaking up by increasing confidence among employees, regulators, and the public.”
