Response to Sir Norman Lamb’s allegations about the financial records of the former APPG for Whistleblowing.

We are firm believers that Whistleblowing needs lots of champions and those who work in this complex area should work together. Sadly this is not always the case as we have witnessed this week.

WhistleblowersUK reject the version of events portrayed. What really happened in 2019 is far less dramatic but sadly Sir Norman has made and repeated a number of allegations about APPG’s, WhistleblowersUK and our role as secretariat for the APPG.

All communications from Sir Norman were passed to the Chair of the APPG who after seeking support from Parliamentary authorities wrote the following inviting Sir Norman to correct the record:

Dear Sir Norman,

 I very much regret that you have resigned from the APPG on Whistleblowing but I note that you were unable to attend any meetings or evidence taking sessions or the AGM and so have been unable to follow its activity as closely as you wished. 

You mentioned a lack of transparency in your resignation email so perhaps it will helpful if I again reassure you that all such allegations against the Secretariat of the APPG have been passed to the Parliamentary Standards Board and that the Board continues to affirm that there is no case to answer. The Board have been very conscientious in examining the repeat allegations made by the same individuals.

 I note that by phone the Secretariat contacted your office to ask what additional information you might wish to receive  over and above the norms for APPGs. Your office agreed that any such request would be sent to me in writing for the avoidance of confusion. 

 I am personally concerned that some members of the Secretariat are being subjected to a very aggressive social media campaign. As you are probably aware, your letter to one of the instigators of that campaign has now been published on social media and I assume that that was not your intention and that your good name has been  inadvertently misused. 

It would therefore be very helpful to me if you could publish a clarification based on the contents of this email.
