WAM2026 Upcoming Events: 24 June 2026.
Protected In Law, Silenced In Practice: 24 June 2pm-3:15pm
Just last month, whistleblowing protections in the UK were strengthened and statutory amendments to whistleblowing legislation came into force under the Employment Rights Act 2025. Yet, for many who speak up, the experience on the ground remains one of discrimination and isolation. It seems that legislation alone is not enough.
In this panel, Marie Hemingway, founder of Speak Out Revolution, will share insights from her research into the systemic failures that leave whistleblowers vulnerable and make the case for an Office of the Whistleblower. She is joined by Baroness Kramer and Georgina Halford-Hall, CEO of WhistleblowersUK, to examine what meaningful protections look like and how they can be developed to secure guardrails that will ensure protection into the future for both whistleblowers and the public interest. The panel will also be looking at whether banning NDAs will achieve the outcome it seeks.

Terracide – Can Whistleblowing Save the Planet? : 24 June 3:30-4:45pm
Terracide covers all the various ways in which we are killing off our precious planet, it’s not just about climate. Whistleblowing will be an important factor in our survival, and there are many ways to get messages across in order to reduce the impact of bad behaviour.
Just this April, a whistleblower working in the Caithness peatlands came forward to allege that millions of plastic pellets were being released into the Flow Country ecosystem, with the true scale of the damage being concealed by developers. It is a stark reminder that environmental destruction often only comes to light because somebody has the courage to speak up, and an important reminder of the power that whistleblowing has to make meaningful, impactful change.
This upcoming panel confronts terracide, one of the most critical issues of today. Baroness Jones is joined by Richard Parlour and specialists from conservation, pollution and the environment to examine the hidden costs of inaction, and why an Office of the Whistleblower and wider reform of the whistleblowing framework may be essential to the future of our planet.
